Job Description

In this project the main objective is to obtain more insight in the biological processes underlying the exposure of a cell model to a (toxic) substance. These biological processes are often dynamic, and thus their activity should be monitored at multiple time points. Therefore, this dynamic activity will be captured by monitoring gene expression, miRNA and epigenetic changes at multiple time points using RNA-seq and MeDIP-seq. In addition, multiple phenotypic endpoints are being measured as well in these time-series experiments.

Different statistical and mathematical models as well as visualization tools will be applied to achieve the objective. Developing or improving/adjusting methods for data integration, capturing time dependencies/time delays and causality will be part of this project.

Requirements

We seek a PhD student who has experience in computer programming and algorithm development (MATLAB, R, Python, Java, Scala, C++ or equivalent) with a focus on computational biology applications. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong affinity for developing solutions for solving computational and biological problems.

Conditions

Temporary employment for 4 years.

Your salary would be € 2.191 gross per month in the first year up to € 2.801 gross per month in the fourth year, according to the PhD-student salary scale.
