We are seeking to appoint an early career informatician/data scientist to join a team of researchers working with 2 large and exciting birth cohort studies: the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC); and the 1958 birth cohort (58BC).

The post will encompass three major roles:
(1) Data access: The post holder will have responsibility for the systems that underpin the provision of access to data generated from biosamples in both studies and enable the release of those data linked to non-biological data to national and international researchers.
(2) Laboratory Informatics: he/she will provide informatics support for sample analysis activities and will interface knowledgably with relevant systems and databases in the Bristol Bioresource Laboratory.
(3) Creating and managing new data: the post holder will undertake format checking, quality control, and variable transformation on new data returned by their generators and will prepare these data for release to other users. He/she will also us contemporary genetic imputation methods create document and ensure quality control of a single ‘common’ genome-wide SNP data set for 1958BC.

The appointment will be full-time on Grade I. The post is ideally suited to someone with an MSc / PhD in informatics/bioinformatics, genetic epidemiology or medical statistics – or has equivalent practical experience in the field.
