The Southern Universities Network (SUN) comprises Higher Education providers and other stakeholders in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It is part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP - http://www.hefce.ac.uk/sas/ncop/) initiative funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), which aims to increase the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in higher education by 2020.

You will play a key role in the development of the NCOP, working closely with senior stakeholders in partner universities, schools and colleges, as well as organisations such as Education Business Partnerships, Local Authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships.  As such, the SUN is looking for a senior leader with proven high level leadership and management experience.  You should also have senior experience of leading outreach and widening participation activity in an educational organisation.

You will be based at the University of Southampton as the lead institution, and will manage the SUN central team comprising four staff initially, also overseeing the NCOP activities across the six participating universities to ensure that these are effectively delivered.  The nature of the role will require you to undertake regular visits to partner universities and schools/colleges across the region. Working with the Steering Group you will be responsible for the annual NCOP budget of c.£3.5 million per year.  Experience of producing high quality reports is key to this role, as well as a highly developed understanding of the importance of monitoring, tracking and evaluation, and evidencing impact.

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic thinker who understands the complexities of collaborative working, and is able to deliver outputs and outcomes to a high and consistent standard.  You will be able to motivate colleagues across the education sector, as well as the NCOP participants themselves (prospective students from under-represented backgrounds, and their supporters).  You will possess extremely high level written and oral communication skills, and the ability to relate authentically to a wide range of stakeholders and age groups.

The post is offered on a fixed term basis and the successful candidate will be appointed on a scale between £48,327-60,742.
