The Southern Universities Network (SUN) comprises a number of higher education providers, further education colleges, schools, and other organisations in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It is part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) http://www.hefce.ac.uk/sas/ncop/ initiative. The new HEFCE-funded project aims to increase the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in Higher Education by 2020.

The SUN is looking to recruit an accomplished and organised communications professional to design, deliver, manage and maintain the network’s communications plans. S/he will lead in the promotion of the SUN’s outreach programme to schools, colleges, and NCOP participants. In addition to leading on SUN communications, the post-holder will act as the ‘single point of contact’ for schools and colleges, dealing with queries about SUN partners’ outreach and widening participation programmes.

The post will see the successful candidate report to the SUN Project Manager. Due to the collaborative nature of the project, the post-holder will be based within the SUN central team at the University of Southampton but will work closely with SUN colleagues situated in partner institutions in Hampshire, Dorset and IOW.

You will have excellent copywriting skills, all-round knowledge of on and offline communication platforms with experience of delivering engaging contact across all platforms. You will possess a comprehensive knowledge of British education system and an understanding of the Higher Education sector and widening participation agenda.

Due to the dual nature of this role, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is well-organised and has experience of prioritising within a continually changing environment, meeting tight deadlines and has a proven track-record of managing stakeholder requirements.

The post is offered on a fixed term basis and the successful candidate will be appointed on a scale between £23,879 - £28,452.
