Job Purpose

College Radiation Protection Coordinator:
The post holder will play a leading role in the development of local policies and procedures, within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, relating to the use of ionising and non-ionising radiation. The post holder will oversee the implementation of the local policies, within all Schools in the College where radioactive materials and lasers are used, in order to ensure compliance with relevant; legislation, regulations and University policy.

The post holder will provide advice and guidance on radiation use, for a period of six months, to members of staff within Schools who have defined radiation safety roles, including Radiation Protection Supervisors and Laser Safety Officers. The post holder will take the lead in ensuring that a ‘steady state’ in this area of safety is achieved in all appropriate EPS Schools.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • A degree in a related discipline, e.g. Chemistry, Physics or Engineering

Experience

  • Substantial experience working within a technical/scientific environment specifically working in the field of radiation


Essential skills and Knowledge

  • The post holder must have excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • He/she will be expected to possess project management skills gained through experience (e.g. through previous research and/or teaching related roles) or formal training.
  • The post holder must be familiar with University procedures, policies, structures and systems, particularly those relating to Health & Safety.
  • The post holder must be familiar with how Health and Safety is managed within the College.
  • The post holder must be aware of the breadth of research across the College and the related common H&S issues.
