The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health

The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health at The University of Queensland (UQ) brings together Indigenous and health expertise across the University, and works collaboratively with community organisations and health providers on improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The UQ Poche Centre aims to address two key challenges and concentrates its Indigenous and health expertise towards:

  • developing a skilled and available workforce, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, to respond to the challenges in urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health;

  • improving urban Indigenous health outcomes across the life course, from maternal and child health, through adolescence to the challenges of chronic disease and ageing, with a major focus on prevention and education.

The role

The Appointee will contribute to the academic responsibilities of the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and engage with the broader UQ community on aspects of accreditation, teaching and learning, and research, as well as other activities associated with the Centre.

The appointee will conduct teaching and curriculum development, as well as an extensive program of research related to the Centre's research priorities, and assist with the operational planning and implementation of the Centre's activities. 

The person

Applicants should posses a PhD in a health or medical discipline, and extensive experience in teaching and learning, research and community engagement in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. The appointee will have a strong track record in research output, with a substantial body of work, and demonstrated expertise in the areas of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Applicants should possess high level interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with sensitivity and tact, and develop strong working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. It is desirable that the appointee will have well established industry, professional and community relationships as they relate to the role of Academic Director.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated. 

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term (3 year) appointment at Academic level D. The remuneration package will be in the range $131,951.19 - $145,370.30 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $154,382.89 - $170,083.25 p.a.).
