Job Details

The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute

The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute was established in 2007 as the sixth research institute of The University of Queensland. The aim of the Institute is to develop a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of disease, and to translate that understanding into practical outcomes for patients. Based at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital teaching campus in Brisbane, the Institute has almost 300 researchers and students who work closely with clinicians in the areas of cancer, immunology and genomic medicine. UQDI is the largest partner in TRI, and is building major programs in Immunology, Cancer and Genomic Medicine research, with a particular focus on research aimed at development of new treatments.  Details of the research interests of academic staff may be accessed on the Institute's web site at http://www.di.uq.edu.au/research.

The role

Work in the Infection & Inflammation Group at the UQ Diamantina Institute, headed by Dr Antje Blumenthal, focuses on innate immunity, regulators of inflammation, and discovery of new therapeutic opportunities for challenging infectious diseases. The successful candidate will drive high-quality research into novel functions of innate immune sensors in the host cell response to pathogenic mycobacteria and their contributions to the host control of infection. The position is embedded into a dynamic team of scientists, students and professional research staff, and will enable exciting cross-disciplinary collaborations in a vibrant research environment with state-of-the-art facilities.

The person

Applicants will possess (or will be in the final stages of obtaining) a PhD and have expertise in research related to host-pathogen interactions at the molecular, cellular and host organism level demonstrated by high-quality publications. We are looking for a highly motivated team member with strong ambitions for a research career, who has excellent laboratory skills, a strong methodological background, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work in a research team that fosters crossdisciplinary collaborations.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion. Applications are particularly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
