Enhancing the integration of skeletal megaprosthetics

Details

The integration of certain complex prosthetics remains a significant challenge, particularly in individuals in an immunologically compromised state. This project will focus on addressing this significant problem through the development of minimally invasive delivery systems that allow for the localisation of molecules or cells which may enhance the process of bone in-growth. The project will be sponsored by a prosthetic manufacturer (Implantcast) who specialise in the production of custom mega-prosthetics for post cancer reconstruction of bone tissue. The ideal student for this post will have experience of the biological sciences, preferably with prior experience of mammalian cell culture or other appropriate biological methods. The project will be based between the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham and the newly established Healthcare Technology Research Institute in the Institute for Translational Medicine.

Tax free bursary of £16,000 p.a. and tuition fees paid

Funding Notes
