Job Details

The FARSCOPE Centre for Doctoral Training at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory is looking for a new Manager to play a pivotal role in the delivery and on-going development of its unique programme. FARSCOPE enrolled its first cohort of PhD students in 2014 and has taken 13 new students into its four-year programme each year since.  In September 2017, FARSCOPE will reach its peak capacity and looks forward to its first graduations in 2018.

You will lead the FARSCOPE administrative team, with an assistant administrator under your direct management, and in close liaison with technical and academic staff at FARSCOPE’s two partner universities, Bristol and UWE. You will manage all aspects of FARSCOPE administration, taking a particular personal focus on communications activities including events, industry partnerships, student recruitment, support to both students and academic supervisors.  You will establish an overall communications strategy for FARSCOPE, and in doing so, contribute to the ethos and strategic development of the centre as a whole.  You will work independently to support the day-to-day running of the CDT, handling internal and external enquiries and resolving problems as appropriate.

You will have significant relevant experience of administration management in higher education or a similar setting. You will also have experience of communications planning and implementation for a project or activity with diverse stakeholders.  Specific qualifications or experience would be advantageous in any of communications, marketing, doctoral or other postgraduate training.

The post is offered on a part time (80%, with negotiable work pattern) open ended contract with funding for up to 25 months. The post location is split between the Bristol Robotics Laboratory at UWE’s Frenchay Campus and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Bristol’s Clifton Campus.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in early August 2017. For informal enquiries, contact arthur.richards@bristol.ac.uk , the Director of FARSCOPE.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
