This is an exciting opportunity to join the Estates and Facilities Team and be a key part of a drive to introduce significant change and improvement in line with the University's 10 year plan and strategy to be simply better than its competitors.

Through better use of the Planon Computer Aided Facilities Management System and working in conjunction with the Planon Team, the post holder will focus on helping colleagues to improve the scheduling and delivery of planned preventative and reactive maintenance of the mechanical building services in a way that ensures safe and comfortable conditions for staff and students are delivered as efficiently and effectively as possible.

A second duty of the post holder, again by better use of the Planon System, will be to introduce improvements to the way in which colleagues ensure that mechanical and electrical building services are maintained, inspected and tested in full compliance with statutory and other regulations and that readily accessible and auditable records are generated.

There are numerous areas where statutory compliance must be met in areas as diverse as Water Management (Legionnaires Disease), The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems/COSHH compliance, Fixed Wiring Inspections etc. Whilst it is not expected that the post holder would have competency in all areas of compliance and it is intended that training will be provided as and where necessary, it is expected that applicants will have a good understanding of at least some.

A sound building services engineering background and good computer skills will be essential to the success of this new position but perhaps more importantly will be an ability to gain the trust and buy-in of a diverse range of colleagues, communicating in the ways that suit them best in order to deliver the necessary change and improvement.

In return the post holder will receive excellent holiday, pension and other benefits as well as gaining knowledge and experience ideally suited to pave the way to future senior roles in Building Services Engineering.
