Overview – Member of the US Strategy and Planning Team (within Strategy and Commercial Model Innovation) whose objectives are to:

- Serve as the subject matter expert on policies and trends related to health system transformation (inclusive of payment, delivery system reform and population health) and translate how the evolution of the healthcare marketplace will impact Merck’s business
- Lead the evaluation of Health care reform issues and regulatory provisions (e.g. MACRA, CMMI demonstration models, Repeal & Replace developments), prioritizing opportunities and threats to U.S. Market and implications to customers and strategy
- In collaboration with Marketing, and support functions lead the development and execution of the annual budget plan process for the US Market
- Build effective and sustaining partnerships with leading and influential health care organizations and ensure Merck’s point of view is represented in the health care dialogue
- Lead cross-functional projects that aim to build above-brand strategies that will support improvements to our commercial model
- Analyze and understand how our customers are implementing value-based payment and delivery models and work with relevant parts of the business to shape our go-to-market strategies based on your understanding of the customer experience
- Assess health care market trends to inform and educate the U.S. Market and keep the strategy current over time
Associate Director, US Strategy and Planning additional responsibilities includes and are not limited to the following:

- Assessing Healthcare Market Trends to identify gaps and opportunities as well as developing actionable recommendations
- Ensuring the US Market Strategy remains current over time
- Overseeing progress on the execution of the US Market Strategy
- Lead working groups for strategic initiatives, including structuring approach, tracking progress against milestones
- Conduct quantitative analysis both externally (e.g., industry trends, ROIs, pricing developments for products in the market, demand views, etc.) as well as internally (working with finance, actuary and other Merck stakeholders) to inform structured recommendations for select strategic initiatives.
- Conduct qualitative analysis both externally (market developments, employer demands, consumer trends and technology, etc.) and internally (understanding Merck position, prior decisions made, feasibility dynamics, etc.) to inform structured recommendations for select strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to key imperatives within Strategy & Commercial Model Innovation

Qualifications

Education:

- Required: BA/BS
- Preferred: MBA

Required :

- Minimum of (5) years of work related experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Strategic Planning
- Strong background and experience in health policy (preferably has had experience working in or for federal or state governments)
- Understanding of US Healthcare Systems, including the nature of business interactions between payers, regulators, physicians and plan members
- Understanding of macro healthcare trends and stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of the key customer type and the various customer segments
- Ability to function and lead others effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, with frequently changing priorities
- Proficient in peer influence building effective working relationships with colleagues
- Demonstrated Leadership Skills: Shape Strategy, Deliver Customer Value, Collaborate, Build Talent, - Communicate Candidly, Achieve Results, Champion Change
- 20% Travel
