The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB Health) is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology (tenure track) to join the faculty in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Community Health (PMCH). The mission of our department is to promote human health and function through population health research and education and to provide evidence-based disease-prevention and health-promotion services. Applicants must have a doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in Epidemiology or a related field. Preferred qualifications include a public health degree (MPH or equivalent) from an accredited school or program, a strong publication record, research funding and/or the potential to secure research funding, and classroom teaching experience.

 

Research is an essential pillar to the success of UTMB’s mission. The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to the research activities of the department, which include conducting and publishing research and obtaining external funding for research or training programs. Opportunities for research collaborations exist with more than 40 research centers and institutes located on campus, covering a wide range of research interests including aging, rehabilitation sciences, women’s health, environmental health, diabetes, translational sciences, infectious diseases, vaccines, and human infections and immunity (see www.utmb.edu/centers/ for more information). In addition, a critical mass of researchers work with large data including administrative and medical records as well as national and international longitudinal cohort studies. 

 

The department administers graduate programs in Public Health (MPH), Population Health Sciences (MS/PhD), Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD) and Clinical Science (MS/PhD); it also trains medical students and residents on topics in prevention and public health. The successful applicants will also be expected to contribute to these educational activities including teaching and mentoring graduate and medical students.     

 

UTMB was established in 1891 as the first academic health center in Texas. It is a component of the University of Texas System and a member of the Texas Medical Center. Today UTMB is a major academic health sciences center of global influence with a world renowned research enterprise. UTMB includes four schools (medicine, nursing, health professions and graduate biomedical sciences), a growing network of hospitals and clinics spread over three campuses that provide a full range of primary and specialized medical care, and numerous research facilities.
