Working as a Clinician with Corrections Victoria

We directly employ Allied Health professionals such as Psychologists (Provisional accepted), Social workers, Occupational Therapists and Mental Health nurses across two program areas to deliver these services:

  • Specialised Offender Assessment and Treatment Services (SOATS); and
  • Offending Behaviour Programs (OBP).

Working as a Clinician for CV, you are offered unparalleled personal and professional development.  In a structured, supportive, reflective-practice environment, this role provides the rare opportunity to work in an area which provides exposure to a broad array of challenging clients, with varying backgrounds and with different diagnoses.  Therefore, preparing you for anything later in your career!

Clinicians are a part of a collaborative, supportive team environment.  In addition to strong supervision by top-tier external clinicians, you will have ongoing support from senior colleagues and your team and continual training to aid in your personal development.  Often, in private practice and community organisations, individual practitioners deal solely with their own clients with little opportunity to collaborate.  Young clinicians are often ‘thrown in the deep end’ in a ‘sink or swim’ style of workplace.

We are committed to cognitive behavioural therapies with a focus on behaviour change and self-efficacy, self-awareness of clients.  Furthermore, you can specialise in areas of interest - young, female, mental health, drug and alcohol dependency, as well as those who have committed violent and sexual offences.

As well as the generous leave entitlements, maternity leave and competitive salary, the main value of a career with Corrections Victoria is the work that you will be doing. The positive impact you’ll make doesn’t stop at the direct client, but also the client’s family and the wider community, in the aim to prevent further victimisation. Furthermore, working at the ‘pointy end’ means positive changes have the most impact.

Before you begin, you will be provided 4-6 weeks of paid training.  In conjunction with your current knowledge and skills, this training will provide you with all the specific tools you will need to succeed in this challenging but rewarding role.

In summary, a career as a Clinician at Corrections Victoria offers:

  • Unparalleled professional growth
  • A collaborative, supportive team environment
  • Job security, career progression and benefits
  • The opportunity to have wide-ranging positive impact

As our ideal candidate you will be:

  • credentialed as a mental health nurse with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses; or
