Job Details
With the penetration of intermittent renewable energy sources into the national electricity grid, it is increasingly challenging to balance the electricity demand and generation. Energy storage (esp. grid scale energy storage) technologies become an important technical solution. Compressed air energy storage (CAES) came in this background. Commercially we have Huntorf CAES plant in Germany and McIntosh CAES plant in the USA. However there are many questions to answer when a CAES plant operating with spare electricity from wind farm is integrated into the electricity grid. This project aims to explore how to design and operate a CAES plant with wind electricity under certain grid requirements.
Funding Notes
Applicants should have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, bioscience or a related technical subject, or have an appropriate MSc qualification.
If English is not your first language then you must have International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) average of 6.5 or above with at least 6.0 in each component.
