Ryerson University seeks a visionary leader for a Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration (https://www.ryerson.ca/research/resources/funding/cerc/),  with a one-time federal government investment (http://www.cerc.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx) of $10 million in funding over seven years, to attract a top-tier, internationally-based scholar and researcher to Canada to lead an internationally recognized research program. The global movement of people – whether it be permanent or temporary, within a country or cross-border, forced or voluntary – is increasingly shaping the political, economic and social processes of the 21st century. In the next 20 years, immigration will account for almost all of Canada’s population growth, making understanding the conditions under which newcomers can take part and thrive in the social, economic, political and cultural fabric of Canadian society all the more critical. The CERC in Migration and Integration will establish a multi-faceted and internationally recognized research program to fundamentally transform knowledge creation, foster global collaborations, and impact policy and practice. The program will examine the structural, historical, and contemporary factors influencing migration decisions and trends, comparing the relative strengths and advantages of different immigration and refugee policies and practices around the globe.

The successful nominee will be a world-class researcher whose accomplishments have made major research impacts in their field(s) and significant contributions to the translation of research to practice that will generate social and economic benefits for Canadians. The nominee must hold a PhD, or an equivalent terminal degree, and be able to provide strong evidence of innovative funded research of an internationally competitive calibre using appropriate metrics of research productivity and impact. The nominee must also have a demonstrated commitment to upholding the values of equity, diversity and inclusion, including, for example, contributions to curriculum that increase diversity, training students of diverse backgrounds, leading research teams made up of members from diverse backgrounds, and knowledge mobilization practices that include community outreach. The successful nominee will be affiliated with either the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Community Services, or the Ted Rogers School of Management, and will be a member of one of the following departments: Geography and Environmental Studies; Politics and Public Administration; Social Work; Urban and Regional Planning; Sociology; Economics; History; Business Management; or Early Childhood Studies.
