Job Purpose

The aim of the project is to build a cellular model of the role of the cytoskeleton in platelet aggregate organization using advanced microscopy and cell labeling techniques. The post holder will develop a robust method for visualizing and quantifying the subcellular structure of individual platelets within an aggregate using Expansion Microscopy. Using this methodology we will study platelet aggregates from both normal and perturbed situations and will develop image analysis methods to better understand the heterogeneity of thrombi and how this may be targeted in disease.

Qualifications

PhD in a life or physical science subject

 

Essential skills

  • Experience in a range of cell biology techniques including cell culture, advanced fluorescence microscopy and image analysis
  • High level of analytical capabilities
  • Good intellectual reasoning
  • Able to assume responsibility
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Good team member
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones

 

Desirable skills

  • Experience in platelet biology
  • Home office personal license and knowledge of Home Office governance on animal experimentation
  • Experience in expansion microscopy
  • Experience in super-resolution or light sheet microscopy
  • Experience in complex image analysis (e.g. Matlab, KNIME, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and interpretation
  • Good knowledge of statistics
