Accommodation Officer

Implement Integrated Transformation Plan (ITP) as it is and to do research, including, but not limited to:

• Develop a strategy, to create residences with an academic focus, including the full implications for numbers and costing as well as strategy for postgraduate, postdoctoral and international students.
• Determine the overall impact of accommodating first year students in campus residences, i.e. socio-economic, academic performance, first generation students, the mentorship system and residence culture.
• Benchmark exercises, not only in South Africa, but also abroad, to determine philosophy and success of accommodating first year students in campus residences.
• Through various university departments (i.e. CTL and DIRAP as well as Student Affairs) establish a pathway to enhance academic performance, not only in junior residences, in order to improve the overall throughput rate.
• Through relevant research and consultation, introduce the minimum requirements for renewal of placement as equal to a 100% pass rate, including first years and students in senior residences.
• Establish a working relationship with the Postgraduate School in order to share the information generated by tracking system used by the Postgraduate School.
• Facilitate the increase in the number of Honours students in senior residences through enhancement of academic performance and a higher throughput rate.
• Benchmark the contribution of significant postgraduate residence community in relation to other universities in South Africa and abroad.
• Through an effective working relationship with the Directorate for Research Development  determine the needs and dynamics of postdoctoral students as a pathway to accommodate more postdoctoral students on campus.
• Liaise with the sub-division Placement Administration in order to understand all relevant placement policies as a tool in achieving strategic targets.
• Identify the issues faced by students in off-campus accommodation, including the quantification of the accommodation gap.

Inherent requirements:

• Bachelor's degree.
• Two (2) years relevant experience in the management of both junior and senior accommodation facilities.

• A thorough understanding of the issues faced by students regarding on-and off-campus accommodation, including the quantification of the accommodation gap.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Recommendation:

• Completed internship in the residence accommodation sector within the tertiary education environment.
