School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences

The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) combines the disciplines of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology into a single academic unit. The School has modern research laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and research infrastructure. The School includes over 50 academic staff, who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.

The role

The successful appointee will work within an established research group and with collaborators from around Australia and international. The research to be carried out involves the deep sequencing of the koala retrovirus genome from koala samples collected from both wild and captive koala populations. Viral genomic analysis will be used to gain insights into retrovirus association with disease, transmission dynamics. The candidate will be required to contribute to the planning and conduct of research, the analysis and drafting of research findings for publication, have some involvement in Honours or Higher Degree by Research Supervision within the group, as well as take on service roles where required.

The person

Applicants must hold a PhD in the area of Genetics, Evolution and/or Microbiology, as well as demonstrated expert knowledge in these areas. Applicants must have demonstrated experience in the analysis of deep sequencing results. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and productive research career. Candidates require the ability to establish effective relationships and work collaboratively and to represent and promote research findings at a university and wider community level, including scientific conferences.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 2 years at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $83,295 - $89,285 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $97,456 - $104,464 p.a.).
