This is a brand new opportunity that is very rare in the current climate. We are seeking an experienced Warehouse and Logistics professional, preferably with knowledge of the Pharmaceutical / clinical trials industry (though candidates will be considered from similarly regulated industries such as Food, provided you understand Cold Chain logistics), to join a small organisation that opened its premises in Slough in 2010. If you have high ambitions, a professional manner, the ability to handle all minutiae of complex international logistics projects, this is an extremely exciting new role.
A recently established organisation that has already turned over £18M in its first 9 months and is on target for £35M over the next year. Set up by an influential industry professional, the company already has major contracts in place with several Big Pharma organisations to support their clinical trial pipelines and is constantly acquiring new business. The company specialises in Comparator Sourcing and has already usurped some of its competitors by offering a premium, first-rate service. They import comparator drugs from a range of international locations and distribute them to clinical trials exactly as their clients require, almost always co-ordinating imports and exports on the same day in order to minimise their clients' waiting times. The Slough office is modern and spacious, with plenty of scope for the company to grow, and the onside warehouse has state-of-the-art cold storage and ambient areas to ensure that the supply chain process can be accurately maintained throughout all stages of the logistics process. Typically the company receives around 6 deliveries a week, so you are not dealing with huge quantities. What you are dealing with is a highly complex logistical operation, including the handling of controlled drug substances, which requires everything to happen exactly as per the requirements of your clients, suppliers and regulatory authorities.
This is a varied, challenging role in which you will co-ordinate all logistical aspects of Comparator import and onward despatch to meet clients' clinical trial demands. Based mostly in the Slough office, it will be your responsibility to liaise directly with courier companies, negotiate rates, agree technical specifications and arrangements, procure materials, log all logistical data (eg. box dimensions, serial numbers, temperature codes etc) on the in-house Orderwise system, manage stock control, ensure accurate record-keeping and prepare documentation for regulatory authorities like the MHRA. You will be a central point of contact regarding tariff codes and purchase orders, as well as warehouse documents such as inventory, consumption, dead stock, goods age and manpower status reports.
You will report to a Project Manager, who in turn reports to the MD, and you will become the main person responsible for overseeing the smooth-running of the onsite warehouse. This will involve calibration and maintenance of cold storage equipment, adhering to Health & Safety measures and performing some manual packaging / wrapping of orders.
The successful candidate must have experience from a highly regulated warehouse and supply chain setting, preferably within a Pharmaceutical environment (whether Big Pharma, a similar Comparator Sourcing company or CMO / CRO services), though Food / Cosmetics / FMCG will also be considered. You must have a good understanding of Cold Chain processes, guidelines and related temperature control instrumentation. Previous experience in supply chain project management, logistics co-ordination and communication with clients, suppliers and couriers would be a strong advantage.
You must be a good negotiator, preferably with experience of liaising with multicultural, international clients, and you will require an eye for detail and the drive to make things happen. This is a small, growing company and you therefore must be the kind of person who can go above and beyond expectations and who really wants to succeed.
