The Opportunity:

Heritage Global Publisher of 200 years is currently hiring a Lead DBA / Database Team Lead. The role-holder will be responsible for all technical and operational activities regarding the group’s databases. 

Leading a team of three DBAs and Database Developers, the candidate will have both a strong DBA and Database Developer background. This is a busy hands-on role and will require the candidate to engage in all DBA and development related activities. The candidate will have line management responsibility for the database team members.

The Database team develops and maintains a busy Sybase OLTP database providing access control to a public facing web site, a large Sybase warehouse containing reporting related data, and a small number of chemical focused Oracle databases. 

The group’s Agile and Test Driven approaches require the team to support a number of development and QA environments. The production databases are used globally with an expectation of 24/7 availability, high performance and continuous monitoring & alerting (via automated tools). Only a minimum of planned downtime is acceptable.

Selection criteria:

> Significant DBA and development experience with Sybase ASE in a UNIX environment.
> Experience with both OLTP and DSS/DW database environments.
> Experience of working within large Java development teams is essential 
> This role requires the ability to communicate database concepts clearly, supporting to promote a good understanding of database design to the wider team.
> Experience and good track record with working with other team leaders in architectural design. Manages conflict within team, and with other teams.
> Educated to University Degree level or equivalent training in the technology arena is essential. 
> Experience with Oracle, Sybase IQ, Column stores, Shell programming and an understanding of large public facing content delivery systems is desirable.
> The successful candidate should be a strong communicator, and have the ability to engage with Java, Business, Systems and Architecture teams.
