Essential Responsibilities:
You will:

  • Develop state-of-the art physics-based macroscopic models to enable design of components and process optimization for Energy System applications
  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team of experimentalists to develop validation methods for high-fidelity and high-accuracy models
  • Develop fundamental understanding of materials degradation mechanisms (thermal, chemical & mechanical) and design of accelerated life testing methods
  • Lead all aspects of research projects, including planning, scheduling, milestones, risk assessment and preparation of proposals for external funding agencies
  • Invent both component and system level solutions and technologies to design high-performance, low-cost and reliable Energy Systems
  • Document results in reports and presentations and communicate effectively within teams and across the organization
  • Work with various GE business design teams to understand and anticipate their needs and provide sound technology solutions to enable new GE products

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Physics, or a related technical disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of transport phenomena, including heat & mass transfer and fluid flow
  • Knowledge and proficiency in numerical modeling and commercial CFD software, such as Fluent, ANSYS and COMSOL
  • Demonstrated experience in applying modeling to materials design and integration in components and systems
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Desired Characteristics:

  • At least 3 years research experience in multi-physics and macroscopic modeling of Energy Storage and Energy Conversion Systems
  • Experience with Thermal-Chemical-Mechanical degradation mechanisms of materials
  • Understanding of electrochemistry and design of electrochemical devices
  • Domain knowledge of energy storage and energy conversion systems, such as batteries, Solid Oxide Fuel cells and Photovoltaic technologies
  • Experience with thermodynamic modeling and reaction kinetics
  • Established publication and/or patent record in own field
  • Experience with conceptual design and system optimization for performance, life, reliability and cost
  • Demonstrated strong research ability, project execution skills and customer focus
  • Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
