Job Summary
The Medical Writer demonstrates therapeutic knowledge over several areas through assimilating information the result of which is transposed into various well- structured writing materials. The Medical Writer has the ability to review and assess their own work and that of others to ensure that key messages are communicated whilst also adhering to agreed budgets and is in line with client strategy.
Job Responsibilities
*Creates scientific documents in an effective manner, in collaboration with or under the guidance of an Associate Scientific Director or Scientific Director
*Supports account teams with client-facing activity as needed
*With the support of ASD/SD, develops and completes program syllabi, writing, editing, faculty contact and approvals, and production; responsible for the quality, scientific accuracy and integrity, & timeliness of projects
Therapeutic Knowledge
*Able to assimilate relevant information for assigned therapeutic area and demonstrate knowledge in written materials
*Demonstrated ability to use a range of resources to familiarise self with medical science related to assigned therapeutic products and categories
*Ability to work on several therapeutic areas
*Ability to quickly learn new therapeutic areas (<1 week) and demonstrate this knowledge
Writing Ability
*Shows an aptitude for structuring and writing straight forward projects, such as abstracts, slide sets, posters, invitation copy and short articles
*Demonstrates the ability to structure and write the majority of more complex projects, such as reviews, primary papers, and reports
*Able to conduct novel projects that may not have been executed previously in the agency, with supervision from SMW or higher
*Able to adapt writing style to suit difference audiences such as GPs, nurses, patients, with minimal supervision from SMW or higher
*Demonstrates ability to write for online media, with supervision
Reviewing Ability
*Ability to review for scientific accuracy and alignment with project brief, client and author feedback, ensure resolution of issues identified. Effectively communicate feedback to primary writer to ensure feedback incorporated appropriately and accurately
*Develops manuscripts such as: original and review articles, monographs, literature summaries, poster abstracts, posters, and slide kits, including concept editing
*Assists in the editorial needs of assigned projects by locating and procuring reference materials
*Ability to edit and proof read the majority of projects
*Able to review junior writer work for strategy
Project Management
*Involved in developing timelines, both internal and external
*Can meet deadlines agreed invariably without guidance
*Drives project completion, ensuring all internal deadlines are met, and proactively deals with potential issues
Essential
*Years/Relevant Experience
*2+ years of clinical, writing, publishing and/or pharmaceutical experience
*Experience in medical education, marketing/strategic planning, journal publication process is preferred
*Bachelor's degree in life science required
*Advanced degree preferred
