We are currently recruiting for a Mass Spectrometer Specialist to join our growing Protein Analytical Chemistry department in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Working within the dedicated Protein Analytical Chemistry method development team and reporting to the Principle Scientist; the successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing the scientific and commercial approach to the protein mass spectrometry offering within Protein Analytical Chemistry. In the immediate term, this role will be responsible for establishing standard method work flows for MS techniques, including QTOF, ion-trap and quadrupole instrumentation. The primary responsibilities are listed below:
• Assume overall responsibility for the protein mass spectrometry method work flows; providing scientific leadership, training and mentoring to the method development team
• This role will have a significant commercial aspect, with Client facing responsibilities, working alongside business development and marketing teams.

• Ensure that work flows are developed to the required scientific and regulatory standards
• Responsible for on time delivery targets (protocols, results, reports)
Our current mass spectrometry service offering focuses on protein characterisation: intact mass, characterisation of protein modifications (e.g deamidation, oxidation, di-sulphide bridging & ID) and sequencing. We are looking to expand on our capabilities in protein mass spectrometric characterisation and quantitation in a GMP environment by moving into the fields of glycosylation and post translational modification analysis.
The Protein Chemistry department is focused on providing analytical support in the drug development pathway for the characterisation and stability assessment of large protein molecules, including: vaccines, antibodies, cytokines and growth factors. The accurate characterisation of a drug is necessary to release manufactured batches of the drug, assess stability (shelf life) and evaluate the impact of changes in manufacturing process or in formulation. This is achieved using a variety of analytical techniques such as: Mass Spectrometry, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, Isoelectric focusing, Capillary electrophoresis, HPLC, UV spectroscopy, ELISA, amino-acid analysis and peptide mapping.
About You
You will typically have relevant experience in protein mass spectrometry (ideally in a CRO environment), project leadership within a matrix environment. In addition, experience of client management and method development is advantageous. You should typically be educated to the minimum of a scientific degree (preferably PhD), with ideally several years experience with protein mass spectrometry.
