
Senior Staff Nurse Oncology - London - £33,000 - £36,000
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Position Summary
You will be responsible for ensuring that patients and visitors receive a level of service that conforms to the company vision, aspiration and values. You will be responsible in ensuring that the operational services and the patient pathway experience is first class.
Requirements:
Registered Nurse Level 1
Recognised chemotherapy course level 5 equivalent
NMC Registration
Mentorship certificates an advantage.
The ideal candidate must have at least 2 years post registration experience in chemotherapy outpatient setting
Good verbal and non verbal communication
Health and safety training
Manual handling
General Responsibility
To undertake the first level assessment of the needs of the patient and family.
To complete documentation relating to patient care and discuss these with the clinical team.
To facilitate enabling continuity and consistency of the therapeutic effect of care through consultation with the patient, the family and other health care professionals.
To liaise and work closely with relevant Clinical Nurse Specialists / Clinic Doctor / Clinical Team / Consultants / Primary Care Teams in the provision of a professional critical care / cancer nursing service, and use skills identified for the post to provide a specialist input to the care that is planned for and delivered to individual patients.
To assess the educational and informational needs of the patient and family. This includes producing and using appropriate materials to ensure optimum understanding of nursing care and the likely outcome.
To enable the patient and family to participate in the planning of care. To assist with teaching in preparation for investigations, treatment and home care.
To demonstrate a positive, realistic and supportive attitude to the patient with cancer to ensure that physiological, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs of the patient and family are met.
In consultation with members of the multi-disciplinary team, to combine different approaches to care when this is appropriate and requested by the patient.
To enhance care within the clinical area by using relevant research outcomes when planning and delivering nursing care.
To evaluate nursing care that has been given and alerts the clinical team / Consultant to the patient's changing health care needs.
To contribute to care strategy for patients undergoing treatment/clinical trials, and ensuring adherence to the principle of informed consent, with all treatments.
To be a role model for potential post holders by demonstrating competent skills that have been determined in accordance with the needs of the unit.
