Description:
The Analytical Development and Commercialization - Pharmaceuticals Department (ADC-Pharm) has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Scientist based at either the West Point, Pennsylvania or Rahway,NJ site. This candidate will be responsible to serve as an individual contributor and team leader in the development and utilization of characterization techniques to support product formulation/process development for Merck drug products. This support consists of analytical method development and validation, analytical investigations, product and process characterization, registration specification development, drug product stability studies, shelf life establishment, process scale-up and process validation support, and preparation of relevant CMC documents for global registration. Effective interaction with other technical, regulatory, research and manufacturing groups is critical.
Responsibilities:
- The incumbent is required to work with teams comprised of scientists and non-scientists to effectively coordinate drug product development efforts and lead the progress for multiple projects.
- The incumbent is also expected to coach/mentor other scientists as well as build/maintain the scientific capabilities of our organization.
- The successful candidate will have completed a PhD in Chemistry with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or a BA/BS/MS in Chemistry with at least 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical development experience.

- The candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and have significant experience in analytical development and technology transfers, and authoring relevant CTD sections of regulatory submissions (IND, NDA, MAA, JNDA, etc) and response to regulatory inquiries.
- Extensive analytical development experience and demonstrated effective planning and execution of scientific and regulatory strategies are a must.
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- PhD in Chemistry with a minimum of 7 years of experience, or a BA/BS/MS in Chemistry with at least 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical development experience.
Required:
- Outstanding problem solving skills.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Significant experience in analytical development.
Preferred:
- Significant experience authoring relevant CTD sections of regulatory submissions (IND, NDA, MAA, JNDA, etc).
- Significant experience in analytical technology transfers.
- Demonstrated effective planning and execution of regulatory strategies.
