Reporting to the Director of Global Data Center Hosting Services, the Manager, Data Center Engineering is responsible for managing the data center engineering services for all Global and Regional Data Centers located in Charlotte, NC; Kenilworth, NJ; Brussels; Singapore and Japan as well engineering support in a matrix organization for all local computer rooms in manufacturing and office locations.

The Manager is responsible for working closely with the Facilities Teams supporting Critical Facilities in each location to ensure the appropriate level of mechanical and electrical reliability at each location. The Manager will work in a matrix IT organization with IT and Network Engineering and Operational staff across the three Merck IT Hubs (Branchburg, NJ, Prague, Czech Republic and Singapore).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Evolving and supporting the Merck Data Center Hosting strategy

*
Recruiting, developing and retaining staff and maintaining effective relationships with vendors

*
Collaborating and driving the development of data center strategy, data center infrastructure planning and standards, and continual efficiency improvements in the data centers

*
Planning and managing yearly budgets for data center improvements

*
Capacity and demand planning for the data centers

*
Technical support for the Data Center Operations staff and all IT and Network Engineering and Operations staff. Understanding of structured cabling systems, network and connectivity standards and hardware installation.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

*
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, engineering or related discipline

Required:

*
Minimum of 8 years of IT leadership

*
Prior experience with and understanding of enterprise large critical facility data centers and their mechanical and electrical requirements

*
Deep understanding of data center, IT and network standards and policies

*
Ability to adapt to changing technology environments

*
Understanding of ITIL processes, compliance programs, audits and physical security

*
Ability to manage large scale projects and develop and improve processes

*
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

*
Ability to develop relationships with people in diverse geographies. This includes company employees, external partners and vendors.

*
Strong team building skills

*
Strong organizational skills

*
Proven ability to work independently and drive results

Preferred:

Ability to lead cross functional teams

*
Ability to resolve problems in high stress, high visibility situations

Strong influencing and negotiation skills

Strong business understanding with the ability to make good judgments and quick decisions from a business perspective and a technology perspective
