The Discovery Bioanalytics department is looking for an individual with deep expertise in pre-clinical bioanalysis of large molecules / biotherapeutics (monoclonal antibodies, therapeutic peptides, related modalities) to establish a presence and serve as critical liaison of the Discovery Bioanalytics department at our Merck Research site in Boston, MA. The successful candidate will apply her / his broad knowledge of Bioanalytics to engage current and future stakeholders and customers, in particular in the early Discovery space, to bring bioanalytics solutions and strategies into project teams, and to establish critical connections to the Merck Discovery Bioanalytics group and network. Furthermore, the individual is expected to actively contribute to the ongoing evaluation of emerging bioanalytics technologies and platforms to keep the Discovery Bioanalytics group competitive with industry standards in our support of all Discovery stage Biologics programs.

The successful applicant has a strong scientific interest in development of large molecule drugs in the Discovery and Early Development space combined with a desire to apply her/his excellent communication and interpersonal skill in all aspects of customer and team engagement. At a later stage and pending successful establishment of a foothold, an expansion of this function to include supervision of bioanalytical laboratory work is envisioned.

Qualifications

Education:

- PhD degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience in bioanalytics of large molecules in the discovery / early development space

Required:

- Extensive experience in the concepts and methods of large molecule bioanalytics (monoclonal antibodies, therapeutic proteins, related modalities) including deep knowledge of current industry standards and developments across platforms (immunoassays, mass-spectrometry based)
- Detailed and specific understanding of drug quantitation and anti-drug antibody assessment approaches and methods, and proven track record of successful implementation in the area of preclinical drug development
- Ability to develop target-, program- and stage-specific bioanalytical strategies to optimally support programs and teams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are critical due to unique position as key liaison for customers and stakeholders into the bioanalytics groups and networks within the larger organization (across Merck sites).
- Excellent organizational skills and keen interest in applying database solutions to optimize operational flow.

Preferred:

- Experience in clinical stage bioanalytics including knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards
- Experience in working with CROs to establish reliable outsourcing partnerships for optimal resource planning and balancing (outsourced / in-house).
- Familiarity with proximal biomarker analysis and evaluation in pre-clinical model species, including complex assay development and multiplexing solutions
- Understanding of cell-based analytical assays used to support bioactivity characterization of analytes of interest present in in-vivo study samples and related applications in early drug development of large molecules.
