DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

LECTURER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Active participation and leadership in the research agenda of the Department;
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Computer Science;
  • Departmental administrative tasks.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science;
  • Publications in accredited journals and conferences;
  • Active engagement as a researcher in a research focus area of the Department of Computer Science, with a proven research record;
  • Lecturing experience in Computer Science on both undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Experience in both Linux and Windows operating systems;
  • Experience in programming languages such as C++, Java, Scala and Python;
  • Big data and data science experience;
  • Big data platforms such as Hadoop and Sparc.

 

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 375 614 to R 497 258 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
