RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • The proactive identification of the current and future information needs of clients;
  • Delivering an effective information service to dedicated departments/clients;
  • Designing products and services relevant to clients’ needs;
  • Marketing products and services;
  • Performing collection building for dedicated departments;
  • Supporting learning, teaching and research activities of the relevant client groups positively;
  • Facilitating the information gathering process;
  • Liaising with dedicated departments;
  • Participating in organisational initiatives/projects.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A four-year library degree (e.g B.Bibl, PG Dip.LIS or B.Inf (Hons)) and three years’ experience in an academic library as an Information Specialist;
  • Relevant tertiary major(s) or experience in the subject field of Social Sciences OR Theology;

OR

  • A three-year library degree (e.g BIS)  and four years’ experience in an academic library of which three years was as an Information Specialist;
  • Relevant tertiary major(s) or experience in the subject field of Social Sciences OR Theology.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Information skills training and presentation skills;
  • Conflict management skills;
  • Good organisational skills;
  • Client focused.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Experience in the research process;
  • Experience in marketing information resources and services.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 367 867 to R 474 573 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
