The Executive Education program at the Alberta School of Business offers open and customized programs to leaders and organizations from Canada and around the world.  As the School's professional development provider and the largest Executive Education program in Western Canada, we serve clients across all industries and sectors, offering over 75 programs and forums serving over 6,000 registrants per year. Opportunity:

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Senior Director, Growth and Innovation is an integral member of the senior leadership team. This position is responsible for leading the organization's growth and innovation through the business development strategy, and all related initiatives and is accountable for all activities related to generating qualified leads for Executive Education programs. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop strategy as well as implement tactics in order to achieve the vision of Executive Education, lead significant growth of the business and support the Alberta School of Business.  

This position will collaborate extensively within the Executive Education team in order to achieve objectives and work closely with the Marketing/Communications network at the School of Business to align marketing and business development strategies in order to increase awareness of the Executive Education brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors business development activities by measuring and reporting on actual performance as compared to budget expectations
  • Manages and tracks an active pipeline for sales opportunities
  • Develops effective business development activities to achieve revenue and enrollment targets
  • Leads related internal meetings and committees
  • Builds business development KPI's, analytics and processes for Executive Education
  • Recommends and implements sales and marketing systems and processes
  • Leads the Financial Times of London rankings committee
  • Supervises the Operations Coordinator
  • Leads strategies and initiatives that result in growth for Executive Education 
  • Participates in the Executive Education strategic planning process, and translates organizational goals into business development strategies and business plans to achieve targets
  • Creates and implements business development strategy for Executive Education that includes all activities such as events, e-blasts, direct mail, advertising campaigns
  • Communicates the business development strategy to the Executive Education team and to Marketing at the School of Business
  • Researches and develops ideas for new programs/courses/initiatives to meet the needs and wants of target markets; identifies and develops new market opportunities; works collaboratively with Program Directors in order to implement new initiatives
  • Leads trade shows, business development events and other activities
  • Sales to prospective participants and key organizational contacts 
  • Develops new relationships (organizations, individuals) in current and new locations with the goal of increasing registrations in open enrollment programs and to generate qualified leads for custom programs
  • Leads relationship management and activities to develop partnerships with associations, community groups and other post-secondary institutions in order to grow Executive Education
  • Leads market research of the executive education industry
  • Proactively monitors Executive Education's web presence for accuracy; leads any changes or re-design of website as necessary

Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in related discipline
  • 10 or more years experience in sales, marketing, business development or account management
  • Experience with Executive Education or training and development industry considered an asset
  • Entrepreneurial thinker
  • Collaborative team player with a sense of humour
  • Ability to travel extensively within Alberta and Western Canada
  • Strategic thinker, proven success building and implementing strategy and business plans
  • Enthusiastic "Connector" with a demonstrated track record of successfully developing new business and long term partnerships; previous experience building a new venture or territory from scratch, or greatly expanding an existing one is desired
  • Energetic and creative problem solver, with a proven facility for listening to a client's issues, assessing objectives, and co-developing effective solutions that align with their needs
  • Conveys executive presence, has the ability to speak with an appropriate level of business acumen and literacy to senior leaders, and establish credibility as a trusted advisor to potential clients, linking their strategic business issues to current and future trends in business education
  • Proven ability to understand and navigate highly politicized environment
  • Proven ability to build trusted and effective relationships with Executive Education faculty and instructors, and a range of other internal stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Results-focused, thrives in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Proven computer literacy
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships
  • Enthusiastic and positive approach to motivating others through effective coaching and team leadership
  • Strategic thinker with a disciplined approach to time management, planning and analysis
