Job Details
The MCL is seeking a highly qualified researcher to manage the surface analysis group. This group currently has capabilities in XPS, Auger, and Tof-SIMS. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment within Penn State, including faculty, PhD researchers, industrial partners, and graduate students in various strength areas such as biomaterials, electronic materials, ceramics, 2-D materials, geosciences, life sciences, agricultural sciences, and soft materials to name a few. The candidate must have an advanced degree in chemistry, materials science, physics or related areas, and have a strong background in surface analytical techniques. Experience with common analytical techniques such as TEM, XRD, and FTIR is required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are absolutely essential.
The responsibilities of this position will involve efforts towards: 1) Managing all aspects of the MCL surface analysis group (budget, personnel, instrument maintenance, and quality control/calibration protocol). 2) Support of existing internal and external industrial research projects. 3) Lead in the development and implementation of a forward thinking vision of surface science at Penn State. 4) Preparation of highly competitive grant applications using state-of-the-art characterization techniques in conjunction with existing Penn State research programs and faculty researchers. 5) Execution of cutting-edge, independent research. 6) Develop strategic research relationships between MCL and various external stakeholders (industry, government labs, other academic institutions). 6) Manage workflow, data analysis, and report writing for multi-technique projects across all of MCL.
This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year with an excellent possibility for renewal. Benefits are commensurate with appointment type. For additional information please contact Colette Orlandi at cmo11@psu.edu. Please upload cover letter, CV, and three references.
