Professor in Social Anthropology

There is a vacancy for a position as Professor in Social Anthropology at the Department of Social Anthropology.

The Department of Social Anthropology is one of Europe’s largest in the discipline, currently with 15 professors and associate professors, 7 post-doctoral fellows and about 30 PhD candidates. Several major research projects are based at the department, including an ERC Advanced Grant project on Egalitarianism. Work tasks/research field:

The Department of Social Anthropology aims to develop further excellence through theoretically ambitious and methodological innovative research that builds, and yet expands on, current research at the Department. We are therefore seeking to hire a professor in social anthropology to strengthen the Department's research on globalization, class and inequality. The successful candidate should address these issues comparatively through ethnographic and historical analysis, and – in particular - have the capacity to unlock the potential for class-oriented perspectives on ongoing projects at the Department.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

• The applicant must have a doctoral degree in anthropology or equivalent qualifications.

• A significant academic output is required beyond that required for a doctorate. The research must be of high quality, and reflect both breadth and depth. The evaluation of the applicant’s scientific work will focus primarily on research published the last five years.

• Ability to initiate and lead research projects, experience in coordinating research activities and strategic work.

• The applicants must be willing and able to teach compulsory courses at both the undergraduate and the graduate level.

• Personal aptitude will be of great importance. Cooperative skills, as well as future plans for research, and ambitions when it comes to teaching will be of added value.

• Basic pedagogical training is a requirement for the position. The successful applicant will be offered training if this requirement is not met prior to employment.
