Job Details
The Department of French is an integral part of a dynamic and forward-looking School of Modern Languages in the Faculty of Arts. The Department is one of only a handful in the UK able to offer an extensive range of modules (‘units’) at undergraduate level encompassing French and Francophone literature, film, culture, history and politics. In addition to this, French language is studied by highly qualified and strongly motivated undergraduates either as a mandatory part of a Single Honours degree, as part of a Joint Honours degree with another one or two modern languages, or as part of a Joint Honours degree with another subject. An ability to contribute to existing units in French literature, cultural studies, politics, history or film is essential as is the ability to teach French language at all levels.
The Teaching Fellow in French will be expected to contribute flexibly across the full range of language teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. S/he will also support the the Department and School in the development of innovative teaching methods and materials and the dissemination of good teaching practice, and will make an administrative contribution to the life of the School (as an acadmic tutor, for example).
The successful candidate will have native or near-native competence in French and in English, and is likely to have both a relevant postgraduate qualification and experience of language teaching, ideally in the HE sector.
Interviews will be held in the week commencing 27 June 2016.
Applications must be made using the University of Bristol’s on-line application system. The closing date is 12 June 2016. Informal enquiries should be directed to Subject Lead Dr Martin Hurcombe at M.J.Hurcombe@bristol.ac.uk
