Job Purpose

A postdoctoral research fellow is sought with an interest in physics of the climate system and the diagnosis of climate variability. The successful applicant will use a range of theoretical, modelling, and diagnostic approaches to investigate the potential influence of tropical/hemispheric variability modes on meteorological conditions over Europe with special focus on extreme events (e.g. extra-tropical wind storms, heat waves, droughts, etc.). The successful candidate will be working under the primary supervision of Dr Gregor Leckebusch (University of Birmingham). The project is focused particularly on the identification of specific processes allowing for predictability of severe storms in the mid-latitudes.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant area of meteorology/climatology or related fields, and must demonstrate an ability to work independently in preparing scientific peer reviewed publications. Candidates should have a background in scientific programming and handling of large data sets, and it will be expected to attend international conferences.
