Job Details
To be an active member of the NITC project/team assisting in the development of project proposals and the planning and delivery of project activity within a specified area so that the overall project objectives of the project/school are met.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Develop and plan an area of personal expertise, and/or undertake applied research under supervision within a specific projector as a member of a project team.
- Carry out analyses, critical evaluations, and interpretations using methodologies and other techniques appropriate to area of the project.
- Present regular progress reports on projects to members of the project group or to external audiences to disseminate and publicize project findings.
- Prepare, often in consultation with supervisor, material for publication in national and international journals and presentations at international conferences.
- Assist senior engineers in the preparation of project proposals and applications to external bodies.
- Carry out routine administrative tasks associated with the project/s to ensure that project/s are completed on time and within budget. These might include organisation of project meetings and documentation, financial control, risk assessment of research activities.
- Read academic/technical papers, journals and textbooks to keep abreast of developments in related technologies and disciplines.
Planning and Organising:
- Carry out administrative tasks related to own and team’s work.
- Effective organisation skills to manage own time and prioritise research.
- Bring issues to the attention of the line manager.
- Coordinate and liaise with other members of the research group over work progress. Resource Management Responsibilities:
- Ensure research resources are used in an effective and efficient manner.
- Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research.
Internal and External Relationships:
- Liaise on a regular basis with colleagues and students.
- Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration.
- Join external networks to share information and ideas.
- Contribute to the School’s outreach programme by establishing links with local community groups, industries.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- 1 Honours Degree or equivalent in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience in one or more of the following fields:
- Drilling of composite stacks in Aerospace;
- Aerospace automation.
- Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes.
- Contribute to the School’s outreach programme by links with industry, community groups etc.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
- Ability to build contacts and participate in internal and external networks.
- Demonstrable intellectual ability.
- Ability to assess and organise resources.
- Must be willing to travel regularly to project meetings, and industrial partners, as required by the project management
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- Hold, or be about to obtain, a relevant PhD.
- Industrial or research experience of optimising aerospace structures using industrial analysis methods or commercial FE code.
- Proven record of publications/reports, proportional to stage of career.
