Student Support Officer

The Department of Physics and Astronomy (P&A) and the School of Mathematics and Statistics (SoMaS) have a joint professional administrative support service, which provides dedicated support in all areas of learning and teaching and operations and research to staff, students and visitors across both departments.

This post will provide administrative support to a range of student support activities. You will support a range of postgraduate research (PGR) activities as well as providing effective support to the examinations process for undergraduate and taught postgraduate students in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and School of Mathematics and Statistics. You will be responsible for student attendance monitoring for postgraduate students, servicing research committee meetings and supporting procure to pay activities in both departments.

You will have previous administrative experience ideally working in Higher Education, in particular with responsibility for supporting student support activities. You will have excellent IT and customer service skills, the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently and the ability to work a high degree of accuracy. Excellent organisational and time management skills are essential, along with the need to work flexibly and prioritise workloads to respond to meet deadlines.

The post is available immediately on a fixed-term basis for 3 months. Applicants wishing to be considered for secondment from an existing University post should speak in the first instance with their line manager.
