As from September 2016, Maastricht University Language Centre has a vacancy for two teachers of English, for the position of ‘vaardigheidsdocent’. Both positions are part-time (60-80%), with the option to work full-time during peak periods (November – January).

Job Description

We are looking for an inspiring, all-round colleague who is a good team player and communicator with an academic skills background. The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in English language teaching or linguistics, with a Celta teaching qualification, or equivalent. Furthermore, experience and being able to teach Cambridge ESOL and IELTS courses at all levels is a must.  Fluency in Dutch is a bonus.

Activities include teaching across the wide spectrum of our bachelor-level academic (EAP) writing courses, coordination of academic (or other) course programmes, supervision of students, as related to actual teaching tasks, including email contact and supervising student intakes. Affinity or experience with CLiL teaching in general is a bonus. Next to academic teaching activities, teaching of tailor-made courses to university support staff, at a range of levels (CEFR B1 – C2), may be part of the weekly tasks, as well as contributing to ongoing internal and external marketing of English courses within the university and beyond.

Requirements

As minimum requirements for this position we expect a completed degree in English language teaching or linguistics, including a formal teaching qualification, and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Successful applicants will have clear didactic skills, be able to work in a network environment,  and be quality and result-oriented. We welcome colleagues with experience in an international working environment.

Conditions

Both vacancies are initially for 1 year; with an extension with 1 year and a permanent position after 2 years, both based on a positive performance evaluation.

UFO-profile: “Vaardigheidsdocent”, level 2 (cf. pay scale 10, as per the collective salary agreement of the Association of Dutch universities (CAO-NU).

Language Centre

The Language Centre (LC) of Maastricht University provides language courses as well as translation and editing services. Each year, well over 4000 participants follow an individual or group course at the LC in either English, Dutch, or one of our modern languages on offer. Courses on offer focus on specific themes, and include integrated academic writing courses in English, English communication for academic staff, writing for publication (PhD), or Dutch courses to help expats better integrate into life, work and study in Maastricht. The target groups are university units and individuals, but also companies, government and other institutions.
