The Australian Centre for Ecogenomics (ACE) is a strategic research initiative established at UQ in 2010 under the direction of Professor Phil Hugenholtz and Professor Gene Tyson. It provides a focal point for sequence-based analysis of microbial communities and builds strength in this space not only in Australia, but the southern hemisphere as a whole. ACE is located on Level 5 of the Molecular Biosciences Building (#76) in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB). The role

The appointee will be working on marine projects in relation to Microbial Ecology and Bioinformatics. You will be required to perform research on culture-independent characterisation of microbial communities associated with environmental ecosystems using high-throughput sequencing. These projects are led by Professor Gene Tyson.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD specialising in one or more of the following areas: bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, genomics, or phylogenetics. Applicants should also have at least three years' full-time experience (during the PhD and/or otherwise), or its equivalent, in a relevant area of microbiology, genomics, bioinformatics or a related field. Experience in scientific programming and/or scripting is also required.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Research Academic Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $79,170.68 - $84,985.56 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $92,629.69 - $99,433.10 p.a.).
