The School of Information Technology & Electrical Engineering

The School of Information Technology & Electrical Engineering (ITEE), located on the St Lucia Campus, is a large School that enrolls more than 3,000 students each year in more than 200 courses. A quarter of its students are international enrolments. The School has approximately 200 research higher degree candidates.

The School has active research programs in the following areas of strength:  biomedical engineering; data & knowledge engineering; E-research; systems & software engineering; power & energy systems (PES); ubiquitous computing; security & surveillance; complex & intelligent systems; microwave & optical communications; cognitive systems engineering; interaction design; robotics; and sleep & respiratory systems engineering.

The role

The successful appointee will work in close collaboration with the research team on projects in electric power distribution system automation with the aim to develop and test technology demonstrators for autonomous network load management in distribution systems.  Responsibilities will include planning the structure and components of a low voltage network monitoring and management system, consisting of power measurement devices, computational nodes and controlled inverters.  There will also be opportunities to provide advice to PhD/MPhil or final year BE/ME thesis students on related projects.

The person

Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent accreditation and standing) in electrical engineering or in a relevant area.  In addition you need to have proven experience in power electronics and related control strategies and in power system modelling and analysis.  A track record of publications in peer reviewed IEEE/Elsevier/IET journals and conferences is essential.

Remuneration

This is a full-time fixed term appointment for two years at Academic Research Level A.  The remuneration package will be in the range $79,171 - $84,986 per annum, plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $92,630 - $99,434 per annum).
