PEROMNES POST LEVEL 3

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The University of Pretoria is one of the leading research universities in South Africa and a university of choice for South Africa’s academic talent. Reporting to the relevant member of the University’s management executive committee, the Director: University Relations will be required to provide strategic leadership in managing the University’s reputation amongst its broad stakeholder community with a view to promoting sustainability, and to manage the Department.

This will include:

  • Strategic planning and management;
  • Human resource management;
  • Financial management;
  • Institutional communication and marketing;
  • Institutional fundraising;
  • Alumni relations;
  • Market research.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • An appropriate postgraduate qualification;
  • A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in a corporate and/or higher education environment, which includes a combination of the following:
    • Stakeholder relations;
    • Corporate reputation management
    • Institutional communication, marketing and strategy formulation in a large organisation;
    • Event management;
    • Media liaison;
    • Fundraising in the Higher Education Environment;
    • Alumni Relations;
    • At least five years in a senior management position.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Strategy and policy development skills;
  • Leadership, management and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to articulate and communicate the vision, mission and strategic plan of the University, and disseminate information as appropriate;
  • Networking and relationship building skills;
  • Ability to do relevant environmental scanning;
  • Skilled in the generation of support (financial and non-financial) on a variety of fronts for a variety of issues and projects;
  • Innovative and creative thinking and problem solving;
  • Sensitivity to academic culture and values;
  • Appropriate computer and information management knowledge and skills;
  • Change management skills;
  • Resource management (Finances, Facilities, Human Resources, IT).

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • An appropriate doctoral degree.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
