The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine and Penn state College of Medicine, is seeking outstanding applicants for a position of research associate. The selected candidate will develop his research in collaboration with the NIH funded research team of Dr. Philippe Haouzi on the Penn State College of Medicine Campus to conduct collaborative research projects on 1- the central and peripheral mechanisms of respiratory control 2- the cellular and systemic effects of hypoxia, 3- the physiological and toxic effects of cellular poisons on the central nervous system, the heart and the lungs. The research involves chronic and acute preparations using large and small animal models.

Requirements include a PhD in physiology, biology or toxicology. The successful candidate should have knowledge and experience in the following areas: surgery in small and large mammals, cardio-vascular and respiratory recordings and in chronic rodent models. Minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral research experience is required with a demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population. The primary responsibility will be to contribute to a productive research program investigating the control of breathing and circulation in small and large mammals under the supervision of Dr. Philippe Haouzi. The candidate will be responsible to Dr. Philippe Haouzi and to Dr. Randy Young, Division chief. The candidate is also expected to participate in educational activities that relate to the Department of Medicine or to the College.
