Job Details

This job is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, ambitious and able public health scientist or epidemiologist with a keen interest in, and ideally a track record of, applied public health and/or epidemiological research, to join one of the UK’s leading centres for research in population health sciences - the University of Bristol’s School of Social and Community Medicine. The post holder will work with the multidisciplinary research team at Bristol as part of the work of the National Institute for Health Research’s School for Public Health Research (NIHR SPHR) and with the Public Health department of Stoke-on-Trent City Council to conduct an evaluation of a new ‘Smokefree Homes’ intervention study that will be rolled out in Stoke-on-Trent this year.

The successful applicant will be coordinating, in close collaboration with the research team, the project and will be directly responsible for the organisation of the fieldwork and within that for the collection of quantitative and qualitative data. After data collection, the successful applicant will be working directly with the research team to collate and analyse the data and draw conclusions on the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and acceptability of this general population intervention. The job will also entail writing of scientific manuscripts and presentation of the findings at conferences.

This post will suit a researcher with a BSc and/or MSc, and ideally a PhD using quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and who has experience in collecting quantitative data and conducting interviews in real-world settings, Ideally, given the geographical location of the trial, the applicant should be resident in, or can easily and quickly travel to, Stoke-on-Trent.
We would like to hear from researchers with experience, or a keen interest, in tobacco harm reduction and public health research, and who have a strong commitment to working alongside other researchers and public health practitioners using a range of multi-disciplinary research techniques.
