Job Details

Sheffield University Management School, the Faculty of Social Sciences’ largest department, has achieved accreditation from the three largest and most influential business school associations: AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The mission of Sheffield University Management School is to use our world class research base to develop knowledgeable and employable students, promote socially-responsible work practices and have a positive impact on organisations and society throughout the world. We sustain a research-intensive environment that creates, advances and disseminates knowledge with respect to management inquiry, for the benefit of students, private and public sector organisations and society in general. Our relocation to a fully refurbished building in June 2013 provides modern facilities in which to achieve our ambitions.

To start this 10-year research programme, we are looking to appoint a five-year Research Associate in Sustainable Supply Chain in phase 1 of the LC3M in Theme 4 (Social Science). This will form a core stream of research in the LC3M. The overall aims are:

• To build a global, sustainable, integrated enhanced rock weathering (EW) supply chain framework for analysing and understanding long-term environmental, social and economic impacts.
• To undertake a full environmental impact assessment of EW using a combination of primary supply chain/operational process data (from Themes 1-3 i.e. earth system science, pure science and applied science) and secondary Life Cycle Inventory databases.
• To analyse the entire EW supply chain using hybrid Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of mining, grinding, transporting and spreading of crushed rocks needed to support EW strategies at meaningful scales for CDR to enable integrated environmental assessment of the EW supply chain and uncertainty-perturbation scenario analyses.
• To develop a comprehensive global sustainable EW supply chain model underpinned by life-cycle thinking, new measures and methodology.

You will be expected and encouraged to develop your research profile through joint research activities and will have an excellent opportunity to develop your academic career potential. You will hold a good first degree and a PhD in Environmental Science, Sustainable Supply chain, Life Cycle Assessment, Management Science, Environmental Economics or a relevant area (or have equivalent experience). You will be experienced in quantitative data collection and analysis, especially in developing mathematical indicators and large scale datasets, and database analytics including advanced statistical analysis. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and experience of delivering presentations is essential.
