Experienced Research Technician at Maastricht University - Campus Venlo – Healthy Eating & Food Innovation

Job Description

To get of to a flying start, we are looking for a research technician with skills related to running the in vitro model of the stomach and small intestine, who helps out with experiments in the in vitro model of the colon where necessary. The primary focus of the work will be executing experiments in the sophisticated, in vitro models of the gastrointestinal tract. Besides that, new developments to study the effect of food on health will be established using cell cultures. One could even think of the combination of the in vitro gut model with cultured epithelial cells of the gut.

The lab expert will furthermore be involved in analyses of samples, support the team smoothly and efficiently running the lab, support Bachelor and Master students in the technical aspects of their laboratory work, and support educational tasks in the framework of the Campus Venlo educational programs. Didactic or educational experience is a plus.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should distinguish him/herself with:

  • demonstrable experience in a scientific laboratory setting
  • preferably experience in cell culture techniques, experience in molecular tools is a pre
  • strong analytical and technicalskills, focusing on food chemistry
  • a pioneering, creative and constructive mindset
  • a “can do” and “hands-on” mentality for labor intensive experiments
  • affinity with education
  • team-player
  • eager to work in a starting/growing and international team

 

Conditions

Your salary will be between € 2.114, - and € 2.854, - gross per month (on a full-term basis), according to salary scale 7, depending on qualifications and prior experience. On top of this, there is an 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance. Your job profile will be “Onderwijs-/Onderzoeksmedewerker 4”. A career perspective is in place.

The contract is initially for a period of one year. A relocation assignment to the Venlo area is a conceivable possibility. Depending on the further development of the group and performance, an extension of the contract is possible.

In the inner-city of Venlo the University College Venlo Bachelor and two Master programs in Health Food Innovation Management and Global Supply Chain Management & Change are situated. The life sciences research will be located in Villa Flora at the former Floriade venue.

The life sciences research at the Greenport Venlo campus focuses on food, nutrition and health. The first life sciences research program to start is Health Eating & Food Innovation (HEFI).
HEFI investigates the effects of health food, builds up knowledge about the health effects of food and the development of new nutritional products. HEFI focuses on the three relevant dimensions to further the use healthy nutritional products; 1. Food, 2. Health, and 3. Consumers.Part of this research is focussed on using in vitro models of the gastrointestinal tract to study the fate of ingested food.
