Currently we are looking for dynamic and independent graduate students or medical doctors who are interested in carrying out a PhD in research projects at the intersection of ethics and medicine. The PhD projects that we have concern vulnerable research populations such as prisoners and older patients.

Alternatively, we may have the possibility of an open PhD topic, where the selected student can choose his or her own doctoral thesis research. Those applying for their own research project, please indicate so in the application and your possible area of interest.

Position Available: June 2016 / Negotiable

Length of PhD Program: 3 years

  • Master's degree in bioethics, medicine, and other related fields.
  • Excellent Master's and Bachelor's academic grades.
  • Enthusiasm, responsibility, and interest in an academic career.
  • Ability to implement an already designed research project.
  • Willingness to learn research methodology and ability to work independently.
  • Applicants are expected to have excellent language skills in both German and English.

We offer:

  • Students will complete empirical methods courses as part of the PhD program in order to successfully conduct their PhD Project.
  • Students will gain knowledge and understanding of bioethics, biomedical ethics, and research ethics.
  • They will also have the possibility to contribute to the academic life at the IBMB, including small-scale contributions to teaching, as well as collaboration in research projects and academic publications in peer reviewed journals.
