Job Purpose:

To take on a leadership role in the management of all major and minor capital Infrastructure Projects undertaken by the university

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • BSc/B.Tech in Building or an equivalent/ relevant qualification
  • At least five (5) year's relevant experience
  • Computer Literacy (MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Internet, Ms Project)
  • Professional registration with ECSA/relevant statutory bodies


Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

  • Taking leadership in all infrastructure projects
  • Make presentations to/for relevant management forums
  • Manage and coordinates the project development planning
  • Advise on the best allocation and utilization of space and resources for new buildings, or re-organizing current premises
  • Co-ordination of approvals and final acceptance of plans
  • Manage monitoring of compliance with architectural design manuals in consultation with independent architects and the implementation of procedures necessary to ensure compliance where non-compliance has occurred
  • Planning for future development in line with strategic business objectives
  • Preparing documents to put out tenders for contractors
  • Provide general management of planning & construction of projects
  • Through use of university policy and procedure establish a clear and ethical business environment
  • Participate in evaluation of tenders
  • Establish appropriate progress management on projects
  • Visits sites of building projects during their construction and confers with field inspection staff/consultants to determine contractual and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure appropriate management of contractors and ensure that changes are well with projects plans
  • Manage infrastructural development projects on sound business principles, costing for a surplus, generating funds, and upgrading physical resources
  • Contribute to the financial management objectives of all university projects
  • Maintain contact with the government departments to make sure that university meets all regulatory and legislated requirements
  • Establish and maintain relations with professionals in the built environment
