The Public Affairs Department has a very exciting and dynamic opportunity available for experienced candidates with a strong media relations background.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Media Relations, you will be responsible to oversee communications with the media, to place news about the accomplishments of the University, its leadership, faculty, students and alumni and their impact on the people we serve, as well as cultivate and foster relationships with media representatives.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • enhance and maintain the reputation, image and identity of the University through on going communication with the media
  • cultivate and foster relationships with members of the local and international media
  • build positive and productive relationships on campus
  • manage multiple channels to proactively advance university messages
  • assist in managing reputation-related issues
  • participate in the planning to manage media requests during an emergency: internal crisis, civic emergency or natural disaster.

Requirements

 

You must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration or related field
  • minimum of three years’ experience of media relations and demonstrated ability in building good relationships
  • ability to source, report and write material that conveys the objectives of the University
  • experience of web content management systems and social media will be an added benefit
  • ability to be flexible and adaptable
  • good oral and writing skills to produce effective and clear content
  • experience of developing compelling angles and proactively pitching stories to the media
  • ability to work in a complex organization, and coordinate amongst departments.
