This post will be based in the Department of Neuroscience and will be located in the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN). SITraN is a research institute, opened in 2010 by HM The Queen, whose primary focus is research into neurodegenerative diseases such as motor neuron disease (MND), Parkinson’s disease (PD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and dementia.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our team to provide research technical support for an exciting project at the translational medicine interface in PD. You will be contributing to a project utilising high through-put drug screening of patient tissue in PD. The aim of the project is use a drug re-purposing strategy to screen drugs in PD patient tissue for two main mechanisms involved in PD; mitochondrial dysfunction and lysosomal activity. The screening cascade will then interrogate the lead compounds in detail of these pathways in patient tissue and neuronal cell models.

You will provide dedicated research technical support to a Senior Research Fellow and her expanding team working this and associated projects in PD and will need to be able to demonstrate a good level of competency in the use of cell culture techniques and biochemical assays in multiwall plate format. Previous experience of human fibroblast culture would be an advantage.
