The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council and is a research centre of Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney.

CTC is a leader in the design, conduct, and reporting of large-scale clinical trials in cancer and other diseases. It also researches trial methods and conducts systematic reviews. It is the coordinating centre for 5 of Australia’s leading cooperative oncology trials groups: the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG), the Australian New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG), the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP), the Australasian Lung cancer Trials Group (ALTG), and the Cooperative Oncology Group for Neuro-oncology (COGNO); and, the statistical centre for the Australian New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG). These groups are non-profit organisations dedicated to the conduct of national and international trials in their respective areas.

The CTC is offering positions at levels A and B to commence sometime between September 2016 and February 2017. Candidates must be medically qualified as doctors and working in the field of oncology.

Oncology Clinical Research Fellowships (Academic A or B) are designed for individuals keen to develop skills, expertise and careers in cancer clinical trials research. Candidates should have recently completed all or most of their training in a clinical oncologic speciality (medical, radiation, or surgical). Past research, publications and presentations are desirable but not essential. Oncology Clinical Research Fellows will work with one or more of partner cooperative groups and contribute to their entire program, as required. This may include working with co-investigators, statisticians, data managers and trial coordinators to develop trial concepts, protocols, grant applications, reports, meeting presentations and journal articles. They will also provide day to day clinical support adjudicating on eligibility, treatment, and adverse events. Research Fellows will participate in research advisory committees, operational executive committees, and other subcommittees of these groups.

These positions are either full-time or part-time, for a fixed term for 12 months and subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees with the possibility of further offer of employment. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. Applicants should be registered or eligible to register with the NSW medical board.

Remuneration package: a competitive remuneration package is available (consisting of a base salary, clinical loading, leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
