Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (M+BS) is a research-intensive Faculty and incorporates the Schools of Medicine, Biomedical Sciences and Public Health as well as major hospital-based research centres including the UQ Centre for Clinical Research, UQ Child Health Research Centre, UQ Diamantina Institute, Mater Medical Research Institute-UQ and the Centre for Integrated Pre-clinical Drug Development. These three research intensive schools and hospital-based institutes and centres achieve broad coverage of the 'translational pipeline' linking the pre-clinical and clinical sciences with population and global health.

The role

The successful appointee will be responsible for the Faculty's occupational health and safety (OH&S) function, leading a team of OH&S staff embedded in the Faculty's schools, centres and institutes. Working with Heads of schools and Directors of centres and institutes, the Manager, OH&S leads and promotes a culture of workplace health and safety in the Faculty, through coordination of OH&S activities in schools, centres and institutes, providing assistance in their compliance with statutory workplace health and safety requirements and University policy and guidelines. The holder of this position also provides specialist advice to the schools, centres and institutes on the prevention of illness/injury arising from exposure to risks from hazards and contributes to the development of contemporary health and safety strategies that support business priorities.

The person

Applicants should possess tertiary and post graduate qualifications in OH&S (or a related discipline) or extensive relevant experience. You will have a thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, Codes of Practice and Australian Standards; a current WHSO or WHSA certification and eligibility for membership with the Safety Institute of Australia (either currently or within the next 12 months).  You will have high level interpersonal and communication skills; high level organisational, problem solving and analytical skills and an ability to act with integrity, tact and discretion.  Furthermore, a commitment to solid record management and documentation procedures is also critical. 

Knowledge and/or experience of WHS policies, procedures and practices within a University context will be highly regarded.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 9. The remuneration package will be in the range $105,640.91 - $111,790.30 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $123,599.86 - $130,794.65 p.a.).
